CEUTA

Ceuta is a Spanish autonomous city, bordered by Morrocco and located on the northwestern tip of Africa, across from the Strait of Gibraltar. The city lies along the boundary between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and is reachable with Tealie in 5-6 hours, crossing the Mediterranean from north to south. A city well worth a visit.

This is a two day overnight trip, crossing the Mediterranean from one continent to another, from Sotogrande marina in the south of Europe to Ceuta in the north of Africa. The views on this stretch are spectacular seeing where two oceans, two continents and three countries meet. Spain and Gibraltar (UK) in Europe, and the Rif mountain chain in Morocco is clearly visible with the mountain Jebel Musa at 842 m. being it's main feature. We have seen whales and dolphins on numerous trips, but unfortunately we can not promise you this on your particular trip, but don't loose faith, keep a close lookout and hopefully they will show up to greet you.

DAY 1
We are flexible so you choose at what time is the most convenient for you to leave Sotogrande marine, although we recommend as early as possible, and preferably before sunrise. It is magical to see the sun rise over the sea and the start of a new day.

When you are safely aboard you will be served a welcome drink, and after the fresh sea air has built up an apetite, you will be served an all-inclusive buffet

When arriving at Hércules Marina in Ceuta and the boat is securily moored, we will take care of the check-in and you are free to step off and explore this beautiful city. The marina is in the heart of the city so within a short walking distance you will be in the centre. We will be at your disposal 24/7 and can recommend things to see and do, but we are not tour guides that will lead you around town. We recommend reading up on Ceuta before the trip so you don't miss out on the most important sights.

The price includes sleeping aboard Tealie, and we will check into a hotel. However, should you prefer to stay at a hotel, we will of course help you find one.

Two all-inclusive buffets are included in the price, one per day, but we do not serve dinner aboard. We therefore recommend finding a nice restaurant to enjoy a night out on the African continent.

DAY 2
A new day and we hope you enjoyed Ceuta, and if you opted to spend the night aboard we hope you slept well. Check-out at Hércules Marina is at noon so we should all be aboard and ready to leave by then. On the way back to Sotogrande you will be served an all-inclusive lunch buffet.

If time permits, before bringing Tealie back to her berth we will take a ten minute detour and follow the canal to the inner parts of Sotogrande marina, past the luxurious and colourful apartments at the frontline of the canal.

If you want to go swimming we have snorkelig gear and towels at your disposal.

PRECAUTIONS AND TIPS

Before boarding Tealie, we would like to pass on some friendly tips.
  • Even though it is warm and sunny when you board Tealie, the sea air can get humid and chilly, especially around sunset. For your own comfort, we recommend bringing a warm jumper or jacket. But not to worry, we have blankets aboard should you forget.
  • Please bring proper shoes. The deck and floor might be slippery with water and we want to avoid all accidents. Our favourite shoes are Sketchers with rubber soles but if the weather is warm enough, barefoot is a good option.
  • We have life vests for those not feeling too comfortable aboard, also for medium sized pets.
  • The all-inclusive buffet includes food and drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. If you have any allergies or have some special dietary wishes or needs, please let us know.
  • If you wish to let your family and friends know where you are sailing, they can follow you by searching for TEALIE on VesselFinder or by clicking on MarineTraffic.

MOTION SICKNESS

Motion sickness is the worst, especially wobbling on a sailboat with no immediate escape. However, if you tend to get motion sick, don't worry, there are some precautions to take before and during the trip.

Before the trip
  • Buy antihistamines, either prescription or over-the-counter, at drug stores or supermarkets. The major ones are cyclizine (Marezine) and dimenhydrinate (Dramamine). If you have children between the ages of 2 and 12, dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) or diphenhydramine (Benadryl) might be helpful. Always check with your doctor or the pharmacist, and read the label well before taking the medicine.
  • Get a scopolamine (Transderm Scop) from your doctor. It's an adhesive patch you put behind your ear a few hours before you come aboard.
  • Buy a pack of lozenges, preferably something with ginger.
  • Do not eat a big meal before boarding.
  • Lay of alcohol, caffeine and drink lots of water.
  • Bring a distraction - like music with headphones.
During the trip
  • If you brought music, listen to it as it might add some distraction.
  • Find a better spot. Many find relief by taking the helm.
  • Lie down if you can, or shut your eyes, and keep your head still.
  • Follow the horizon, don't look down or read.
  • Dry, salty crackers might help.
  • Anything with ginger, i.e. Ginger ale.

If nothing of the above helps, we will give you a bucket and head back to the marina.
